70th Birthday Celebration
An intimate evening at City Winery in New York for 150 guests, family, and the music that scored a lifetime
When the honoree’s family flew across the country and around the world, the brief was simple: honor their Jewish and Irish heritage, anchor the night around live music and wine, and make it impossible for anyone — including the honoree — to feel separated from the band. We sourced and recommended eight venues before landing on City Winery, New York, then built a stage close enough to dance and connect with the performances.
Event Challenges & Goals

The honoree wanted to thank the family and friends who had been part of his journey — and to do it with the live music that had scored a lifetime. The brief was a deeply personal evening anchored in family, wine, and performance.

Bringing 150 guests together intimately while making sure no one — including the honoree — felt separated from the band. A traditional ballroom-and-riser arrangement would have created distance we couldn’t afford.

Honoring a dual Jewish and Irish heritage without leaning on red or any Christian iconography — the visual default of many milestone celebrations. We needed a palette and a design language that celebrated both, in one room.
The Solutions We Provide
Strategic Planning & Full-Service Design and Production
-
The client originally proposed a different venue, which we ruled out on-site when the floor plan couldn’t hold 150 guests with a dance floor. We toured eight venues before selecting City Winery — a room with the acoustic pedigree, the wine-forward identity, and the dance-ready footprint to carry the night.
-
Rather than separate the band from the family with a traditional riser, we built a custom front stage to close the gap, bringing the honoree off the platform and into the room. The steps themselves became the dance floor.
-
To honor the honoree’s Jewish and Irish heritage without red or Christian iconography, we built the room in deep blue — threaded into custom draping, lighting, and table design. Personalized galleries of family imagery throughout the space echoed the visual language we had built for his wife’s birthday at The Standard.
-
We booked The Gardner Brothers — a Make It Happen relationship sourced through Instagram years before they relocated from Dublin to Nashville — and choreographed the steps so guests could dance alongside them. Music selection, band selection, and song selection were curated end to end.
-
We curated a fully bespoke menu personalized to the family’s tastes, from cocktails to entrée to dessert. Every detail of the food and beverage program was designed around the honoree’s preferences.
-
With family arriving from across the country and around the world, we planned around weather contingencies and managed international and domestic guest arrivals so no guest — and no moment — was lost in transit.
Behind-The Scenes Planning & Design Tools
From 3D renderings and custom floor plans to fabric sourcing and live production, every detail was mapped and designed before the first guest arrived.
The evening was capped with a live performance built around the honoree and closed with a full donation of event décor and draping to a nonprofit, a meaningful end to a night built with as much heart as intention.
